EFFECTS OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL ON TEACHING AND LEARNING OF PUPIL IN NURSERY AND PRIMARY SCHOOLS. (CASE STUDY OF SOME SELECTED SCHOOLS IN AMAC F.C.T ABUJA)

 ABSTRACT

The Focal Point Of The Project Is On The Effect Of Instructional Materials Of Teaching And Learning In Nursery And Primary School In AMAC. The Objectives Of The Study Was To Determine The Extent To Which The Use Of Instructional Materials Facilitates Teaching And Learning In Nursery And Primary Schools In AMAC.

Survey Design Method Was Adopted In The Conduct Of The Study While Simple Random Sampling Technique Was Adopted In Selecting The Sample Of One Hundred (100) Students. Data Collected Were Presented In Tables; Analyzed Using Simple Percentage And Finding Were Discussed. Finding From The Study Revealed That The Use Of Instructional Materials Makes Lesson Easier And Clearer For Teachers. Use Of Instructional Materials Facilitates Learning And Enhance Students Achievement, It Was Equally Revealed That The Use Of Instructional Materials Promotes Effective Teaching And Learning In Nursery And Primary Schools. The Researcher Concluded That The Use Of Instructional Materials Promotes Effective Teaching And Learning In Nursery And Primary Schools And Therefore Recommends Its Adoption.

 

CHAPTER ONE

1.1BACK GROUND OF THE STUDY

An instructional material is a guide which enhances communication of information, and makes sensory impression on the pupils. It also enhances the process of assimilation and improves the efficiency of the perception. It aims are to brighter up to assist and to maintain attention which on the other hand, they represent the exact thing.

Many years ago, teachers effectiveness rested. On his or her  knowledge of the subject matter, the knowledge of how to organize and present content meaningfully and his ability to understand. Those being taught. At the present time, there is much emphasis concerning the use of the instructional materials. This has developed through the interaction of mass media and people. In order words, the main effect of instructional material in teaching and learning in primary schools. These was not wholly a product of post civil war depression. This had existed even in more serious conditions since the government took over schools in early 1970s and was merely intensified by the on set of oil boom in Nigeria.

   According to Ngwu (1997) the effective purpose of instructional materials is a major step in successful curriculum Implementation. They started that as the important things concerning instructional materials teachers are the center figure in his view that instructional material.

    When well used help in complementing and supplementing. The teacher’s verbal efforts he also started that they arouse the interest of the learners when appropriately used.


   The components to success in participation include availability and adequacy of instructional materials pre-school hand book (2008), In participation the teacher should ensure that materials used are enough for a participation. Lesson by ensuring he/she has lesson plan before the. According to season (2009), the quantity of materials group arrangement. Time management ensuring  availability and adequacy of instructional materials, the lesson will be leaner’s centered instead of teachers centered and thread bare motivate learners this is because all of them will be involved in participation using the available instructional materials instead of listening to the teacher explain in class for example adequacy of instructional materials means that teacher explain should ensure that materials to be used for a particular class are enough depending on the number of learners using them Jacinta (2013).According to personal handbook(2008)teacher need to group learners

According to their different ability so that they can assist one another, the teacher will also need to be guided by the lesson plan; where less time should be used on introduction and conclusion while most of the time should be left to learners to experience air by been engaged in activities such as flying balloons and kite. The movement of kites and balloons show that there is air in a vacuum Esther (2009). Use of the straws to blow. Soapy water help produce bubbles and these the learners to realize that there is air in water.  These activities boost participation by involving all the learners during a lesson preschool handbook (2009).

 

1.2 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

A problem is an existing negative state of events that avoid attending set goal. In his study, the existing problem in nursery and primary schools especially in government school in FCT is lack of affective use of instruction materials. Arouse interest and promates a desire to learn, supplement desire. It also gives an example impression of the concept, illustrates relationships, and promotes retention mid memory in addition to candidate, what has been learned, help to save teaching time and makes learners to have self estern learners get motivated and have. That idea of sharing, in participation in a reason bothering (2001). The issue of concern in this study is the impact of instructional materials in teaching primary and Nursery school in F.C.T

 

1.3 PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the use of instructional materials on teaching and learning in Nursery and primary school in AMAC ABUJA FCT. And to also find out

1.     The extent to which instructional materials influence teaching and learning in Nursery and primary school.

2.     The availability of teaching Aids.

3.     The importance of grouping students during the use of teaching Aids.



1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The study findings will enable the holders to realize the importance of instructional materials in class teaching and learning in Nursery and primary school.

The Teacher trainees will be guided by the study finding to choose the most efficient instructional materials in classroom activities. Also guided by the study, the parent will be able to choose school center with the best instructional materials the findings of the study will Also. From a basis for research on the role played by instructional materials on participation in classrooms.

 

1.5 RESEARCH QUESTIONS

1.     To what extent has instructional materials influence teaching and learning in Nursery and primary school?

2.     To what extent is the availability and adequately of instructional materials?

3.     What are the importance of grouping of learner during the use of instructional materials.

4.     What is the effect of management record on the improvement in pupils. When instructional materials are used.

 

 

1.6 SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This study was restricted to only Nursery and primary schools in satellite town. This was done in order to look effectively in the use of instructional material in  teaching and learning  process in Nursery  and primary school.

The scope includes the following schools.

i.                   LEA Primary School Nyanya

ii.                 LEA Nursery and Primary School Jikwoyi Phase.

iii.              LEA Primary School  Orozo

iv.              LEA Primary School Karu

v.                 Scaffold international school  Angwan Sarki Orozo Abuja  furthermore, this research  intended to  assess the affect of instructional  materials on  the  performance  of the  above  listen  Nursery  and primary  school  pupils

1.7 LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

This study  is limited  to the  use  of instructional  materials in  Nursery  and  primary  school  in AMAC FCT ABUJA  and to only 5 schools in  AMAC this is  because, it  will  not  be  possible  for  the research  to cover   all  schools in AMAC.

 

1.8 DEFINITION OF TERMS

Instructional materials are guide which enhances communication of information, and makes sensory. Impression on the pupils they can also be defined as materials or tools locally made or imported that could make tremendous improve of a lesson intelligently used.
